Pompey boss admits transfer rethink after injury boost

John Mousinho has said that any additional striker transfer may not be necessary after positive news of Kusini Yengi.

Mousinho described the injury as a ‘freak incident’. Yengi suffered an injury in training, suspected to be a fractured ankle.

He was in so much pain and it appeared he would be out for over 16 weeks.

After a recent scan, it has been revealed that only ankle ligament damage was done, with six weeks out now likely.

What has John Mousinho said?

With Yengi back fit sooner than expected another forward option may not be needed.

About injuries, Mousinho said: “The first thing is we’ve got the squad as it is now because of the fact we know there are going to be injuries. We always budget for 2-4 injuries, a bit more than that and you have to deal with it.

“The Kusini (Yengi) developments slightly changes things in terms of what we are possibly going to look for.”

There is less need for transfer reinforcements now Pompey feel.

Talking about this factor, the former Oxford man said: “By the time he comes back, we’d then have four centre-forwards in the building, we might be a bit too heavy at that point.

‘So it’s good news and we are definitely happy.”

Funds that may have gone on a new forward can be used elsewhere which is a double positive.

Yengi will be back in six to eight weeks and with Colby Bishop and Christian Saydee, there are good options for that period.
