The Portsmouth coaching staff for the 2023/24 season is led by head coach John Mousinho. Here is the club’s current assistant manager, first-team coach and goalkeeping coach.
Head Coach: John Mousinho

In January 2023, following the dismissal of Danny Cowley, John Mousinho assumed the role of Portsmouth head coach which marked his inaugural venture into senior managerial responsibilities.
Mousinho concluded his playing career at Oxford United in the same month having notably represented clubs such as Burton Albion, Oxford United, Wycombe Wanderers and Stevenage across 18 years as a defender.
During the last two-and-a-half years of his playing tenure at Oxford, the London-born Mousinho also served as a player-coach. Choosing to retire at The Kassam Stadium, he swiftly transitioned to the helm of the Portsmouth first-team and secured a ‘long-term contract’ with the club.
Assistant Head Coach: Jon Harley

Jon Harley was appointed to the Portsmouth coaching staff in February 2023, not too long after Mousinho was made head coach. The former Pompey player was made assistant head coach.
Harley played professionally for the likes of Chelsea, Fulham and Sheffield United and eventually rocked up at Fratton Park in 2012. He would make 23 league appearances, scoring one goal.
After his appointment eleven years later as Assistant Head Coach, Sporting Director Richard Hughes said of Harley: “His face would light up whenever he talked about Pompey and you can tell he has an affinity for this football club.”
First-Team Development Coach: Zesh Rehman
Zesh Rehman joined the Portsmouth coaching staff at the start of the 2022/23 campaign as lead professional development phase coach under the stewardship of Danny Cowley.
Cowley was sacked in January 2023 and Rehman was then temporarily made first-team development coach. He impressed and was offered the role on a permanent basis two months later.
Rehman’s professional playing career spanned almost 20 years and played in the Premier League for Fulham. He was the first British Asian to play in the top-flight of English football and the first British-Pakistani to be employed as a senior professional football coach in England.
Goalkeeping Coach: Joe Prodomo
Arriving from Bournemouth, Joe Prodomo joined Portsmouth with prior experience as the first-team goalkeeping coach at Southend United during the 2020/21 season.
Before his stint at Southend, he briefly contributed to Pompey Academy and had a three-year tenure at AFC Bournemouth, serving in various goalkeeper coaching roles until his transition to Southend in 2021.
In June 2022, Joe Prodomo assumed the role of goalkeeping coach with Portsmouth having departed his position as the under-23 goalkeeping coach at Bournemouth.
