Loanee will be ‘prolific’ says Pompey boss as he praises youngster

Portsmouth manager, John Mousinho, believes that Abu Kamara will start scoring goals as he acclimatises to life at Fratton Park.

The forward signed on loan for the season, from Norwich City and he has gone onto feature in five games.

Kamara was signed off the back of 31 goals in 49 appearances for Norwich’s under 21s side.

Despite playing in the majority of games this season, he is yet to score his first goal for Pompey.

The signs are there with a positive xG of 0.68 in two starts and three substitute appearances.

Manager, Mousinho isn’t disheartened by his performances so far.

What has John Mousinho said about Abu Kamara?

A lack of goals so far isn’t the end of the world for the 20-year old. He is coming up to speed with the league.

This was a sentiment shared with his manager who was pleased with him: “Abu has been really good, he’s earned a couple of starts and really affected games.”

It is clear that he has good facets to his game other than goals.

If he was to get his name on the score sheet, that would take him to the next level.

Talking about his opening appearances, Mousinho said: “He’s had a really positive start to his career here and I thought against Stevenage he was our bright spark in the first half, in particular.

“He probably tired a bit towards the end, but that’s part of his learning curve, he’ll get better and better.”

There are goals to be had for Kamara and he definitely has that ability.

His youth football has given Mousinho hope: “Abu scored a huge amount of goals in Norwich’s under-21 side, we know he’s got the capability.

“It just needs something to fall for him and, once it does, his confidence will go through the roof.”

Pompey’s boss appreciates the youngsters movement which is a great aspect of his game: “He gets himself into good positions and has played as a centre-forward as well. He has that goal-scoring pedigree.”

Sadly, Kamara missed a vital penalty in the shootout against Peterborough United in the EFL Cup.

His manager doesn’t want him to dwell on that: “We want players who want to take penalties and I always think it’s a difficult thing to do.

“Abu’s penalty miss is not an issue at all.”

Top praise overall from his manager. He will be hoping he can take that praise and turn it into goals.
