Andrew Moon hints at Norwich City summer stance on Portsmouth loan star Abu Kamara

BBC Sport’s Andrew Moon has been quizzed on the future of one of Portsmouth’s star players.

John Mousinho’s side are now on the brink of returning to the Championship, with just seven points required to end their 12-year exodus from the second tier.

Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with Derby County has kept the chasing pack at arm’s length ahead of Saturday’s home clash against Shrewsbury.

The earliest Pompey can be promoted is next Wednesday, providing results fall their way. The more likely scenario will be the trip to Bolton Wanderers on April 13.

In a season that has thrown up so many star players, “brilliant” winger Abu Kamara is undoubtedly a fan favourite.

The 20-year-old has registered seven goals and ten assists this season in what has been a superb start to life in senior football.

What has Andrew Moon said about Abu Kamara’s future?

The winger’s performances have seen the Fratton Faithful clamour for a return in the 2024/25 season, with many suggesting the Blues should test Norwich City with a bid.

Moon – the go-to for Pompey-related news – has been talking about the Norwich loanee in his latest Q&A.

“If Pompey were offered Kamara for £650,000, they snap your arm off to sign him. It is possible, if Norwich go up that he could be loaned again but the only thing I would say is that the probability is that a number of other Championship who would have deeper pockets are probably be eyeing him up,” he explained.

On the Canaries stance, Moon added: “I don’t think it’s that likely returns. If you were Norwich and you had this player come through your academy, you wouldn’t let him leave unless millions were being offered. I don’t realistically see it happen, but you never know.

“I wouldn’t rule out another possibility of a loan if Norwich go up. If they don’t go up, they’re going to want him back and in their first-team squad. It’s highly optimistic to see Kamara return, but never say never; stranger things happen in football.”

What has John Mousinho said about Abu Kamara’s future?

Unfortunately, Mousinho has also suggested a return for the fan favourite is unlikely.

Talking to the Portsmouth News back in March, the Pompey boss said: “Obviously, that’s completely out of our control; I would be very surprised if Abs is available next season because I think Norwich will use him.

“As much as I would love to sign him, his priority should be to be challenging at Norwich next year.”

Realistically, Kamara will only return if Norwich are promoted to the Premier League. Between now and the end of the season, the Fratton Faithful will be eagerly watching events at Carrow Road in the hope of the youngster potentially returning to the South Coast.
