‘Disgrace’… 25-year-old Portsmouth star slams ‘shocking’ decision at League One rivals

Portsmouth defender Tom McIntyre has slammed the latest news to emerge from Reading.

In a remarkable fresh twist, The Royals’ beleaguered owner, Dai Yongee, has agreed to sell the club’s state-of-the-art training ground to local rivals Wycombe Wanderers for a cut-price fee.

With no takeover imminent, there are concerns the League One club will fail to cover March’s wages, with HMRC payments also required. Reading face the possibility of yet another points deduction if funds cannot be raised.

A stunning statement on Monday revealed that the club’s Bearwood Park training base was up for sale.

Wycombe have since confirmed that they are negotiating the purchase of the training facility.

McIntyre, who the Blues signed from Reading in January, has slammed remarkable developments.

Taking to X, the 25-year-old brandished the news as a “disgrace”.

“What an absolutely shocking decision! Nothing short of a disgrace.”

Of course, Pompey signed McIntyre during the January window and somewhat took advantage of Reading’s plight. However, purchasing an entire training ground feels slightly more significant.

It’s a move that will divide opinion in League One. Wycombe are using the Royals’ issues to their advantage more than anyone before.

From a fan’s perspective, it’s essential that Reading survive this turbulent spell. Yongee has driven the club into the ground, and the fans are ultimately punished.

As much as there was angst between the two clubs this season, Portsmouth know better than most what poor ownership can do.

But it’s hard to envisage when this misery will end for Reading fans, with this latest training ground saga just another shambolic event under the current ownership.
