Portsmouth took a giant stride towards automatic promotion with a 1-0 win over Peterborough United at the Weston Homes Stadium.
Kusini Yengi’s left-footed strike was enough for John Mousinho’s side to secure victory and move nine points clear of Bolton Wanderers in third spot.
It wasn’t all plain sailing for the Blues. The hosts were the better team in the first half and hit the bar through Ephron Mason-Clark.

However, Mousinho’s side grew into the game after the break and produced a fine counter-attack to seal a monumental three points in the promotion race.
It’s another step towards ending the Blues’ 12-year Championship exodus, and Eric Eisner has shared his immediate reaction to the result.

Taking to X immediately after the fixture, Portsmouth’s owner coined the victory as a “massive” moment in the season.
“This team is special! Exciting match of Football,” he wrote. “Great stuff. Really a MASSIVE win. Strong all around effort. 7 games to go. Job not done but this is a big one. Enjoy your evening everyone and travel safe everyone who made the trip. Nice to get a little break and reset. Big!!!”
Portsmouth edge closer to automatic promotion
This feels like a significant win for Mousinho’s side. Posh are among the division’s elite and displayed that in the first half.
The attacking firepower at Darren Ferguson’s disposal is mightily impressive, but the Blues restricted the hosts to very little in the second half.
As we have seen so many times this season, Pompey’s ability in both boxes is the best in the division by some distance. They’re clinical when needed but restrict the most potent attacks to very little.
If Pompey do get promoted this season, Saturday’s win in Cambridgeshire will be viewed as one of the key moments.
