Luton Town manager Rob Edwards was at Fratton Park on Tuesday evening to watch Portsmouth’s 2-1 win over Burton Albion.
It was a fairly routine evening for John Mousinho’s side, with a Kusini Yengi brace enough for the Blues to maintain their five-point lead at the top of League One.
Edwards, 41, was spotted in the director’s boss in the South Stand, and the Pompey boss has since explained why.

John Mousinho explains why Rob Edwards was at Portsmouth v Burton Albion
Talking to the Portsmouth News, Mousinho revealed he’s in regular contact with the Luton Town boss.
“Luton played Bournemouth last night, so it was a natural one for Rob to come down to the Burton game. Rob and I speak regularly around a load of things and he’s been a real help to me as a coach,” he said.
He added: It was great to see him, and we briefly spoke after the game. Whenever players are being looked at by anyone, I know it’s a compliment. I know for a fact that wasn’t the case on this occasion; it was that it geographically works, and there’s a link.

“But I would expect the way that games are broadcasted and the amount of information that is available these days, I’m sure our players are being watched at all times. That’s the same as we do for other players, with an eye on our recruitment strategy as well.”
Portsmouth’s players under the microscope
Any successful team will see their players under the microscope from those in higher divisions, and it’s no different for Pompey.
Looking at the current crop of players, a number could attract transfer interest in the summer.
Paddy Lane could be linked with a move higher up the food chain. Brighton and Hove Albion monitored the 23-year-old before completing his Fratton Park switch last January.
Abu Kamara, on loan from Norwich, attracted interest from Stoke City and Leicester City in January. After impressive goalscoring returns, Yengi and Colby Bishop could also catch the eye.
Nevertheless, it’s good to hear Edwards’ venture to Portsea Island was purely because Luton was playing close by on Wednesday evening.
