Peter Crouch shares Portsmouth promotion prediction after draw v Derby County

Peter Crouch has shared his thoughts on his old club, Portsmouth, as John Mousinho’s side close in on promotion to the Championship.

The Blues drew with Derby County on Tuesday evening, adding another valuable point to their impressive tally.

Up next is a Fratton Park fixture against Shrewsbury Town, and Crouch has delivered his verdict on his former employers.

The 43-year-old, who scored 34 goals across two spells with the club, revealed he bumped into 30 Portsmouth fans during his recent trip to Dubai.

Talking on the most recent That Peter Crouch Podcast, he said: “I do have to give a shout-out to my old club Portsmouth; they’re going great guns in League One.

“There were 30 of them [Portsmouth fans] out here the other night doing football escapes, which is what I am doing here, and they were all so excited for the game against Derby. They were saying to me, ‘If we win that, we are home and dry’.

“They got it back to 2-2; it’s a decent result. They’ll be over the moon, and it will be great to have Portsmouth back in the Championship. It could happen, and it will happen.”

When will Portsmouth be promoted?

Results over the Easter weekend meant that Mousinho’s side would have to wait a little longer to secure their return to the second tier.

Nothing can be sealed against Shrewsbury Town tomorrow, but a victory could set up the trip to Bolton Wanderers very nicely.

The Trotters have been one of the Blues’ main promotion rivals during the 2023/24 season, and the travelling fans would revel in the chance to celebrate promotion at The Toughsheet Stadium.

However, ensuring the job is done against Paul Hurst’s side will be Mousinho’s priority. The Pompey boss has managed to keep his players firmly grounded throughout the season, and that will be no different this weekend.
