‘To be honest’… John Mousinho unhappy with one thing Portsmouth did v Bolton Wanderers

John Mousinho was left unhappy with one thing his Portsmouth side did during the 1-1 draw with Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

The Blues’ imminent promotion from League One was put on ice for a little longer as Aaron Collins’ clever header cancelled out Abu Kamara’s early classy finish.

Pompey now need a point to secure their exit from League One and can do so against Barnsley at Fratton Park. A win against the Tykes will see the Blues promoted as champions.

Talking after the game, the Pompey boss highlighted his side’s poor response to taking to lead at the Toughsheet Stadium.

“Delighted with the point. Really displeased, I think, with how we responded to going a goal ahead. I thought we started the game really well. We were excellent, always a threat,” Mousinho told BBC Sport’s Andrew Moon.

“We scored the goal and then went into our shell. Maybe the occasion got the better of us. Made some really uncharacteristic decisions. Slashing at clearances and not tracking runners.

“To be honest, I thought the Bolton goal was coming. When it did, we clicked back into gear and we were decent toward the back end of the first half.

“The second half was a good game of football. We wrestled control back.”

Portsmouth will be delighted with 1-1 draw at Bolton Wanderers

Pompey will be delighted with their point on Saturday. Bolton are a force at home and certainly created enough to take all three points. However, as we have seen much of the season, Mousinho’s side found a way to grind out a result.

The Blues’ second-half performance was probably deserving of a point and, in fact, there were even opportunities to win the game.

Now Pompey will fancy their chances of getting the job done at Fratton Park. The atmosphere promises to be one of the best in years, and Mousinho’s men should finally cap what has been a superb season on their home soil.
