Who is Brad Wall? Everything you need to know about Portsmouth’s new head of recruitment

Brad Wall has finally taken up position as Portsmouth’s head of recruitment, and here’s all there is to know about the Former Manchester City man.

The Fratton Faithful have been aware of Wall’s impending arrivals for a number of weeks.

Phil Boardman’s move to Everton meant Pompey’s head of recruitment had been earmarked to take over at PO4 before the end of the Blues’ League One title-winning season.

Wall has now served his gardening leave and has started work on the South Coast. Wall’s first job will be to replace several first-team players who were let go at the end of the 2023/24 season, although John Mousinho is confident of Marlon Pack and Connor Ogilvie extending their Fratton Park stays.

Education

Wall attended Liverpool John Moores University in 2009, completing a foundation degree in Natural Sciences.

He then went on to complete a BA Hons degree in Science and Football, finishing his studies in 2013.

However, Wall then decided to return to university in September 2022, completing a master’s in Sporting Directorship, Business Administration and Management. Portsmouth’s new head of recruitment is set to finish his latest course in September 2024.

Playing career

Wall’s short playing career lasted just four years, having played semi-professional football for Merseyside club Marine AFC from 2008 to 2012.

Work experience

It’s fair to say Wall heads to Fratton Park with a seriously impressive resume.

After his playing career came to a close, Wall joined the FA as a performance analyst in an off-site support role. During this role, Wall provided support to the national team by acquiring match footage for opposition games.

After initially moving to Liverpool as 1st team performance analyst intern, Wall then joined the Reds on a full-time basis, providing first-team analysis for three years before returning to the FA as a Men’s performance analyst.

Wall then moved north of the border to take up a first-team analyst role at Rangers before spending three and a half years at Wolverhampton Wanderers in a scouting position.

Most recently, Wall has worked as Manchester City’s Northern UK Scouting Manager.

It’s a resume that will undoubtedly excite those at PO4.

What Richard Hughes has said about Brad Wall

Sporting director Hughes has had to manage Portsmouth’s recruitment over the past two windows. Speaking to The News, the former Forest Green chief has lauded Wall’s ability to pick out a player.

“Brad has served his notice period, and I’m delighted to bring him in. He’s smart, he’s diligent, good at his job, well connected, and has a really good eye for a player,” he said.

“We felt it was going to be worth the wait to ensure we got the right person as opposed to the quick person. He was a really strong choice to lead the department and help us to continue to get better.”
