Former Portsmouth manager, Danny Cowley has shown his support for his old team by discussing them on the BBC’s Football Daily podcast.
Cowley was appointed as head coach of Pompey back in March 2021. He would go on to win six of his first 12 games in charge.
This form saw him sign a long-term contract at Fratton Park. What followed was patchy form and a tenth-place finish.
After 13 points from a possible 15 in the following season, he won League One Manager of the Month for August 2022.
After this great start, the form fell away and after two months without a win, Cowley was sacked.

What has Danny Cowley said about Portsmouth?
Speaking about his former side, he couldn’t have praised them more: “They’ve had a brilliant start to the season.”
On their recent form, Cowley added: “They had a fantastic week. Taking a point at Derby right at the last minute, and then backing that up by going to Barnsley away. 3-0 up after 15 minutes!”
Cowley saw plenty of incoming and frustrating outgoings which hampered his chances.
On his time at the club, he said: “This time last year, we lost Marcus Harness who was probably our best player at the time.
“We did bring Colby Bishop in, but I think if you really want to be successful you really need to improve, you want to keep your best players and you’ve got to add to your best players.”
With that being said, he doesn’t think that this is the case with the club this year.
On the squad, at present, he praised them: “I look at their squad and I think it’s improved again. I think they’ve been able to keep hold of their best players.”
Following Cowley’s dismissal, a chance was taken on a new up-and-coming coach in John Mousinho.
The former boss was also full of praise for his successor: “I think they look like a team that’s improving by the game.
“In John Mousinho, they’ve got a young manager, a real intelligent man, who is doing a really, really good job.”
Great to hear a former manager say so many positive things and just shows how great this club is.
