Pompey boss has selection dilemma ahead of Derby trip

John Mousinho almost has a fully fit squad as his side travels to Derby County, leaving him with decisions to be made.

Portsmouth went into the international break following a 3-1 win over Peterborough United in a memorable victory.

Christian Saydee made his eighth appearance of the season and received rave reviews from Pompey fans.

Tino Anjorin has been unavailable since signing for the club this summer on loan, but should be available for the Derby match.

As a result of top performances, mixed with players returning from injury, there are decisions for the manager to make.

What has John Mousinho said bout his squad?

Zak Swanson is another player that has recently returned to action following injury and also received plaudits after his Peterborough performance.

On the full back, Mousinho said: “‘If I rewind to some of the early weeks of the season, you might be thinking ‘How you get Zak Swanson into the side?’.

“Zak came into the side against Peterborough because the opportunity had come along and I thought he was brilliant in that match.”

If players keep performing to a top level, then the manager won’t mind these decisions.

When discussing his decisions, he said: “Our focus will be making sure we have plenty of options. Tino will give us another one of those options and that’s an exciting thing to happen.”

Anjorin signed from Chelsea, after several years in the Championship, so will provide true quality.

When comparing him to what he already has, he said: “Tino is slightly different to Christian Saydee.

“He can probably play as an eight as well as a 10, while has played for Chelsea as a holding midfield player as well because of the quality he possesses.”

When looking at the squad he has, Mousinho can be happy.

With that, he is voicing that opinion: “We’re in a good spot in terms of where the squad is – then they have to keep challenging each other to get better and better.”

With the form his side is in, they are only going to get better and better.
