Portsmouth star involved in ‘brilliant’ BBC interview day after League One title win

One Portsmouth player may have enjoyed his side’s League One title celebrations a little too much.

John Mousinho’s men secured their spot in the Championship and the League One title against Barnsley on Tuesday evening.

Conor Shaughnessy was the hero for the Blues, powering home a bullet header in the 90th minute to cap what has been a sensational season at PO4.

Mousinho’s men were heading up with the score at 2-2 before the Irishman’s late heroics saw Pompey become uncatchable at the top of League One.

Celebrations, unsurprisingly, ran late into the night and trickled into Wednesday morning. The Fratton Faithful have waited 12 years for this moment, and the fans and the players were more than deserving of being ‘let off the leash’.

Paddy Lane clearly enjoys Portsmouth League One title celebrations

Paddy Lane was introduced midway through the second half on Tuesday evening.

And after his latest interview with BBC Sport Solent, the Northern Irishman has evidently enjoyed himself.

Below, BBC journalist Chris Wise shared an interview with the 23-year-old, who is, quite frankly, unable to string two words together.

Wise highlighted that the Pompey winger may have enjoyed himself over the past 24 hours. He said: “The thing is, he’s clearly not stopped drinking for 24 hours. And his interview is absolutely brilliant.”

Paddy Lane probably won’t start against Wigan Athletic on Saturday

It’s fair to say that Lane probably won’t feature against Wigan Athletic on Saturday. The winger may need a couple more days to recover from what has been some serious celebrations.

There’s still plenty to play for in the season’s last two games. Two victories will see Pompey become League One centurions and break their all-time league points tally.

Four more points will also match their 98-point haul from the 2003/04 season. But, considering the celebrations and jaded performances of late, changes could be afoot against the Latics on Saturday.
